BrightTALK is a well respected company providing online events in order to enable business gurus to share their insights, ideas and up-to-date knowledge with industry professionals. Behind the scenes many hours of footage are edited and stored both for immediate and future usage.
Whilst the data was well ordered and organised, it resided on a plethora of small firewire storage units that were attached to individual editing suites with all the inevitable drawbacks.
In 2009 it was decided to consolidate the data onto a large central storage system. The chief requirement was for multiple machines to be able to stream video simultaneously to and from the central storage without interruption to the flow. Many of the high speed systems at that time were based on expensive fibre-channel technology, and a team headed up by Paul Holden was sent to IBC to investigate the options and find a solution.
Wandering onto a stand which was manned jointly by GB Labs and one of their resellers, Paul met with the two directors and was struck by the depth of Video knowledge exhibited by both of them. It was almost immediately apparent that Space was a very different product from the other competitive offerings inasmuch as It was a far simpler solution and offered a vastly improved price/performance return on investment. Also it didn't require expensive and delicate fibre channel cables to be installed.
When asked what had impressed him most about the company, Paul said that it had been the fact that the two directors were "Video Guys" first and foremost and not just IT. He went on to say that they had provided real added-value to the provision of a solution.
Nearly a year after the installation went live, Paul was asked if he would like to provide a couple of comments on his overall satisfaction with the system.
He said that once the teething problems were resolved, he thought that the overall solution is excellent. It has resulted in greater productivity from the editors and greater flexibility in scheduling the workflow. His final comments were: "Editors are now able to jump from desk to desk as the requirement demands" and "The benefits of centralised storage have made all the difference to our productivity".
